JUDO

judo

Judo translating in English to "gentle way", is a Japanese martial art, combat sport and self defense. Judo was created in the year 1882 by Jigoro Kano. Judo is comprised of throws, submission techniques, and hold downs. Judokas are tought techniques and encouraged to learn to apply them in free practice (randori). Good judokas are required to have good moral character should practice judo regularily.

JUJITSU

jujitsu

Ju-Jitsu (sometimes spelled Jiu Jitsu) emphasizes utilizing an attacker's own force, or energy against him/her.Ju Jitsu directly translates to "gentle art". The main overiding principle which is prevelent in all Ju Jitsu techniques is that they require minimal effort and they achieve maximum efficency. Ju-Jitsu techniques can be used when striking, grappling, or ground fighting. Jiu Jitsu uses a "no resistance" philosophy to combat. By using redirection, off balancing and elusivity, Jiu Jitsu students can efficently disarm or defeat their opponent. Ju Jitsu students are encouraged to practice in order to cultivate a person's mind, body and soul. It should not be used to vent one's anger, or frustration. Jiu jitsu should be used strictly as a self defense. Many years ago the Japanese Samurai practiced jujitsu and followed the bushido way. Bushido, meaning, "way of the warrior knight" was a code of conduct which outlined the way Samurai should behave. Some examples of martial arts that have derived from Jujitsu are Aikido,Sambo,Karate,Bazilian Jiu Jitsu and, Kenpo. Japanese kickboxing has also been traced to Karate. MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Mixed Martial Arts is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions or as a self defense. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete. The term may also be used, less correctly, to describe hybrid martial arts styles. Be sure to pay our dojo a visit if your interested in MMA or self defense in Staten Island.
